Director General of PCCB, Dr. Edward Hoseah, Prof. Suleiman Ngware in a Picture with Students of University of Dar es SalaamThe students, led by Dr. Kennedy Gastorn of the Faculty of Law and an Associate Dean (Administration), met with the PCCB Director General, Dr. Edward Hoseah who briefed them on the Bureau’s functions, activities and PCCB’s history.
The Director General also gave a presentation on the typology of corruption, causes of corruption, how to reduce corruption, managing conflict of interest and on public interest. He further gave an overview of ethics and on the principles of public life.
In response to a question raised by one of the students who wanted to know how the PCCB manages to ‘smoothly’ perform its functions of which are dependent on other State Departments, Dr. Hoseah explained that the Bureau maintains mutual relationships with all other State Departments with which it deals with. Just to mention a few, include the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution and the Judiciary.
He further said that the same applies to matters that depend on other countries or foreign agencies to be accomplished and of which has yield positive results. “We have established mutual legal assistance(MLA) with most of our counterparts outside Tanzania,” explained Dr. Hoseah.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Mr. Omondi Robert Owino thanked Dr. Hoseah for accepting their request to visit the PCCB. “Your presentation has been of a big help to our understanding of corruption, and how PCCB as an institution work. I believe most of us will leave here with a different perception from what we perhaps perceived of the PCCB…Thank you,” said Mr. Owino.
The group constituted students from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania.
